Overview
In 1997, AB 186 (Brown) added sections to the California Health and Safety Code which provide for the regulation of tattoo, body piercing and non-medical application of permanent cosmetic establishments. Alameda County adopted an ordinance which became effective in January 2009 authorizing the regulation of artists and establishments in all of Alameda County except the City of Berkeley which provides it's own regulatory oversight program.
