The empowering goals of the Alameda County Mental Health Board are divided into six areas.
Organizational
- Improve the effectiveness of the Mental Health Board.
- Make sure our By-laws are accurate and in compliance with current state legislation.
- Unify Committee Procedures.
Committees need to function more effectively.
A unified reporting procedure is needed. - Establish Work Plans.
- Be accountable for its actions in terms of attendance and committee activities.
- Update our training manual.
- Expand our community involvement to allow for more input by members of the community, which in turn will help us to better improve our communication with Behavioral Health Care Services.
Advocacy
- Strengthen involvement of Mental Health Board in the delivery of Mental Health Services to the community.
- Strengthen ties with County Board of Supervisors.
- Promote greater awareness of mental health issues.
- Recognize publicly the outstanding service of community members to the mental health issues within the community.
- Be Legislative advocates when and where appropriate.
- Promote good systems for mental health care for the community.
Education
- Develop and use 10 key Questions (now 11.) This is a standard to measure progress from year to year.
- Expand our community involvement to allow for more input by members of the community through Town Hall meetings.
- Create education programs to help community members learn about mental health needs.
Review
- Monitor the effectiveness of the 10 Key Questions (now 11.)
- Oversee Phase II & III of Managed Care Planning and review program changes prior to implementation.
- 3. Review mental health needs of the community (Legislated Mandate.)
Evaluation
- Determine the effectiveness of the 10 Key Questions (now 11.)
- Evaluate the impact of program changes while overseeing Phase II & III of Managed Care Planning.
- Evaluate mental health needs of the community (Legislated Mandate.)
General
- Improve the effectiveness of the Board in fulfilling its legislated mandates and bring closure to issues brought to its attention.
- Oversee mental health budget and fund transfers.
