Each January we recruit for the following position:

Insect Trapper (Services As Needed)
$15.32 - $18.62 /hr
This is a full time seasonal position (April-October) with excellent medical and dental benefits.

Job Description: Insect trappers place, inspect and maintain traps throughout Alameda County. They work closely with the public to locate the presence of exotic insect pests before they become a serious problem.

Minimum Qualifications: Must have a valid California driver's license, provide a DMV driver's record report, and meet one of the following requirements:

Experience: The equivalent of six months full-time experience with private or public agency in agricultural, biologist or agricultural pest detection work.
OR
Education: Satisfactory completion of three college level courses in either agricultural or biological science.

Skills and Abilities: Since insect trappers work closely with residents and businesses strong public relation skills are required. A positive attitude as a team player is needed while many trappers work together to protect the county, region, and state. Ability to identify plants is important in finding hosts for various traps. Must be able to identify insects and learn to recognize target pests. Safe driving habits and strong navigational skills help trappers move efficiently through their routes.
