Alameda County Redevelopment
Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC)

How does the Redevelopment Agency identify the community's priorities for redevelopment and how does the Agency make its decisions on what projects to fund? The Agency works closely with the County's Board of Supervisors, who also act as the Agency's governing Board. In addition to input from the supervisors, the Board appoints local citizens to sit on the Agency's four Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC's).

The CAC acts in an advisory capacity to the staff and the Board of Supervisors. CAC members contribute to the Redevelopment process in a variety of ways. Members may review and provide comment on the guidelines and structure of Agency programs, the budget and project priorities. Members also provide insight and knowledge to the Agency as members of the community who understand the real conditions, problems and possibilities of their neighborhood. CAC's are a way to bring the community together and turn ideas into achievements.

As Alameda County's Redevelopment Project Areas cover the Ashland, Cherryland, Castro Valley, San Lorenzo and Hillcrest Knolls communities, the Agency has four standing committees representing each of these areas with the exception of the Hillcrest Knolls community (agency staff attend the Hillcrest Knolls community association meeting when necessary, due to this area's small geographic size). CAC members must be either a resident, commercial property owner, commercial business owner and or be closely involved in some relative capacity within the Redevelopment Project Area. Each member that sits on the CAC has a very strong commitment to improving their surrounding community.

Each CAC meeting is held very other month. All of the meetings are open to the public. Click here to view the calendar. You can also call 510-670-5333 to be placed on the meeting notification mailing list for your community. The committees welcome public input, so if you are interested in having a say on what will happen in your community or are just curious to hear what's coming down the road, plan on attending the next CAC meeting for your local community.
