Graffiti Abatement Program

Overview

The purpose of this program is to provide a graffiti removal service for private properties in the Alameda County Redevelopment Sub-Areas including Ashland, Cherryland, Foothill, San Lorenzo and Castro Valley and for all public property in the unincorporated area with the intent of preventing and controlling the spread of graffiti.

How the Program Works

If you see graffiti on your property or in the area, immediately call (510) 670-5500 to register your complaint. County staff pick-up these messages on a daily basis and will contact you to verify the location and type of graffiti. Once a consent form is signed, a professional contractor is dispatched to clean up the graffiti. The contractor is capable of using a wide range of effective cleaning methods and will make every effort to match paint.

Private Properties

If you own, manage or lease a property that is located within a redevelopment area you may be eligible for our Graffiti Removal service for free. If you're not sure if you are in a redevelopment area just call 510-670-5500 and ask.

Most Important Thing to Remember

Before the County can send a contractor to clean-up graffiti on your property - we need your permission. Help us to anticipate and respond quickly to your needs by filling out and returning the Consent Form.

Does the County have the authority to make property owners remove graffiti?

Alameda County has a Neighborhood Preservation Ordinance, which prohibits any graffiti visible from the street. The Ordinance requires that the property owner remove the graffiti within a reasonable amount of time or the County will take legal action.
