The Ashland Youth Campus, being constructed on the site of the old Holland Oil Site, will include the construction of a new gymnasium, an expanded and improved park, and a new Teen Center.
The new gymnasium will be constructed for Edendale Middle School, and will also be utilized for after school activities to be operated jointly by the San Lorenzo Unified School District, Hayward Recreation and Park District, and the Alameda County Deputy Sheriff's Athletic League.
The new park, of almost two acres, will be combined with the existing twelve acre park at the Edendale campus. The new park will allow access from East 14th Street and provide additional parking for the park and school activities.
The new Youth Center to be funded by the Redevelopment Agency was identified by the community as a primary need for the
Ashland area and will include job training and educational assistance programs, a school-based/linked health clinic,
child care facilities related to the "Cal Safe" Program, an office and indoor athletic facilities for the Deputy Sheriff's
Activities League, a teen oriented library, classroom and meeting space, a large media recording studio, dance studio,
computer lab, recreation areas, a small coffee shop, and some rentable space on the second floor for youth-oriented service
programs. It is expected that the Center will be constructed in 2011.
