To function effectively, employees must be able to communicate with other people, many of whom are in distant locations. This requires an effective internal and external system of communications. The Communications Department of the General Services Agency provides Alameda County departments with this vital resource.

The Communications Department has two divisions: the Electronic Systems Division and the Telephone Systems Division. The Department is headed by the Deputy Director, GSA-Communications, whose office is at 1401 Lakeside Drive, Oakland.
