ABOUT US - DIRECTOR
Dave Macdonald - Director of Information Technology Department
I have been the Director of Information Technology since 1985. In that time the department has kept pace with the expanding needs of the County by upgrading hardware from an IBM 370 to the current Generation 5 Enterprise Server; by expanding its network from 1100 terminals to 6100 terminals and workstations; and by implementing office automation systems, relational databases and numerous client server applications.
The Alameda County Information Technology Department is organized in support of the County departments and agencies. As such it's primary responsibilities are twofold:
- To provide the stable, responsive computer systems the agencies require to accomplish their missions.
- To analyze and interpret the progress and direction of the computer industry for the County departments.
Our staff of 154 provides the County with a wide-range of technical and business skills.
