Welcome students, teachers, and counselors to the Alameda County Registrar of Voters' High School Student Poll Worker Program.

The High School Poll Worker Program promotes civic awareness and educates students about the election process on Election Day.

Students will receive training and gain "hands-on" experience and learn the significance of the democratic process.


To be eligible:

  • U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder)
  • 16 Years or older on or before Election Day
  • 2.5 GPA out of a 4.0

Benefits:

  • $95 for Election Day
  • $15 for 2 hour mandatory training class (Mandatory to work on Election Day)
  • $10 extra for Bilingual Student Workers who are fluent in one of the following languages (Cantonese, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese) and work at a Polling Precinct where voters whose primary language is not English, on Election Day
  • $5 for passing of our optional online training class (If you work on Election Day)
  • Get job experience for your resume or college application; show college admissions and potential employers that you have a record of responsibility, teamwork, and leadership
  • Community Service Hours for graduation requirements
  • Learn how our electoral process really works, up close and personal
  • Receive mandatory Election training from the Alameda County Training Staff
  • One month prior to Election Day, mandatory training is provided Monday - Friday (and some weekends), with numerous training classes located throughout the County.

Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up/opening polling place
  • Assisting voters
  • Closing the polling place
  • Counting ballots
