Voting System

Accurate. Reliable. Secure.

Picture of ballot scanner.

The future of voting in Alameda County is here! The Alameda County's voting system, manufactured by Sequoia Voting Systems of Oakland, uses paper ballots and high-speed optical scanners to count the votes. A touch-screen voting machine will be available for people with disabilities.

The system allows voters to easily mark their choices on paper ballots, which are fed into optical scanning machines set up at each of the county's polling places to tabulate the votes. This method not only makes voting simple, it provides a paper record of each vote that can be reviewed when a recount is necessary. The County's touch-screen machines produce a paper audit trail that allows voters to double-check their choices to be sure they were recorded correctly. These paper records can also be used in recounts.
