Technical Services Department
The mission of the Technical Services Department is to provide County Departments with assistance in the development of space needs, architectural planning and project management services.
Including and complimenting the basic mission of the department are functions such as:
|Project Planning||Space Planning||Needs Programming|
|Architectural Design||Cost Estimating||Project Management|
|Construction Management||Construction Inspection||Sustainability Practices & Recycling|
|Code Compliance||ADA Compliance||Energy Systems Management|
|Major Maintenance Projects||Special Projects||Hazardous material abatement|
The Technical Services Department is located in the Lakeside Plaza Building at 1401 Lakeside Drive, Oakland, and can be reached at (510) 208-9523.
The Department also coordinates the efforts of other GSA departments as applicable when undertaking any project. Departments such as Energy & Environmental Management, Communication, Purchasing and others that are involved in a particular project are all coordinated by the project or construction manager working out of the Technical Services Department.
County facilities used by departments that are owned by the County are in fact owned and operated by the County under direction of the Board of Supervisors and managed by the General Services Agency. The responsibility for construction, maintenance, and remodeling of buildings is vested in the Director, General Services Agency.
Because of the close ties to the Building Maintenance Department, careful attention is given to the maintainability of products used in projects. Location, serviceability, sustainability, resource conservation and reliability are also factored into each project. Every attempt is made to use County-wide standards for hardware, fixtures and accessories to enhance maintainability and reduce inventory of spare parts.
