A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 4:30 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing. Postmarks are not accepted. Failure to submit the Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification. THE POSITION(S): Accountant-Auditors perform a variety of entry level professional accounting and auditing functions, including but not limited to examining, analyzing and verifying complex fiscal records and data; preparing financial, accounting and analytical reports. This is an entry level, trainee classification. Incumbents are expected to develop the technical knowledge and skills needed to perform full, journey-level professional accounting and auditing responsibilities. THE REQUIREMENTS: These are entrance requirements for admission to the examination, which is competitive. Possession of the entrance requirements does not assure a place on the eligible list. A candidate's performance in the examination will be judged in comparison with the performance of other candidates. EITHER I EXPERIENCE: The equivalent of one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time hours) experience in a professional accounting or auditing position, including: a) preparation of original and adjusting entries, plus preparing financial statements; or b) performing financial or internal audits. OR II EDUCATION: Completion of college-level courses in elementary/introductory accounting, intermediate accounting and auditing. LICENSE: A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Professional level governmental accounting or auditing experience is highly desirable. Employees may be required to furnish their own means of transportation, and/or to operate a County vehicle.
The examination may include but may not be limited to: KNOWLEDGE OF generally accepted accounting principles and generally accepted auditing standards, proper English usage; computer applications and information systems used in office and accounting contexts; management methods. ABILITY TO apply generally accepted accounting practices; identify deficiencies in fiscal controls or noncompliance with established accounting policies and procedures; schedule and revise work plans; communicate effectively, orally and in writing. THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following four steps: A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process, a screening of applications and Supplemental Questionnaires to verify further knowledge, skill or ability. The next steps are: a written test which will be weighted as 50% of the candidate's final examination score, and an oral interview which will be weighted as 50% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises. CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.
