THE POSITION(S): This is the advanced journey-level class in the
professional engineering series. Incumbents perform difficult professional
civil and technical engineering work related to water resources, flood control,
water supply and water treatment facilities and systems, and have lead
responsibility which involves assigning, scheduling, monitoring, training and
reviewing the work of assigned personnel. Positions located in Pleasanton,
California.
PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Associate Civil Engineer, Zone 7 may
advance by competitive examination to:
Senior Engineer, Zone 7 - $3466.40 - Current Bi-weekly Maximum
THE REQUIREMENTS: These are entrance requirements for admission to
the examination, which is competitive. Possession of the entrance requirements
does not assure a place on the eligible list. A candidate's performance in the
examination will be judged in comparison with the performance of other
candidates.
EITHER I
EXPERIENCE: The equivalent of one year of full time experience in the
class of Assistant Engineer, Zone 7.
OR II
EDUCATION: Possession of a bachelors degree from an accredited
college or university in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
(possession of a valid State of California Engineer-In-Training may be
substituted for the required degree); AND
EXPERIENCE: The equivalent of three years of full time progressively
responsible professional engineering experience.
CERTIFICATE: Possession of a valid California Certificate of
Registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the California Board of
Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers, or a valid California
Certificate of Registration as a Registered Geologist issued by the California
State Board of Registered Geologists and Geophysicists.
LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Drivers License.
THE EXAMINATION: THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED
EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any
existing list and will last approximately one year, but may be extended.

The examination may include but may not be limited to: KNOWLEDGE OF
principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to a water agency,
including design and construction, surveying and drafting, materials
engineering and soil mechanics, environmental impact analysis and stress
analysis; principles of hydrology, hydraulics, hydrogeology and water resources
management; principles and practices of project management and contract
administration, including planning, organizing, delegating, scheduling and
controlling; engineering mathematics, economics and statistical analysis;
construction methods, materials, specifications and codes; computer software
applications related to engineering; applicable codes, regulations and
standards relating to water resources, water quality and civil engineering.
Ability to effectively organize and coordinate complex engineering
projects, studies and contracted services; prepare and oversee the preparation
of plans, designs, sketches, estimates and specifications; apply engineering
principles and computer programs to the solution of engineering problems;
conduct engineering studies, investigations and analyses; analyze and interpret
complex data and reports and reaching sound conclusions and forecasts; reading
understanding and interpreting engineering data, maps survey notes, legal
descriptions and other material; preparing clear, concise and accurate reports
and correspondence; maintain accurate data and records; deal tactfully and
effectively with the public; other agencies, developers, engineering firms and
contractors, and other employees; lead assigned staff in completion of projects
and tasks.
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following three steps: A review
of candidates applications to verify possession of minimum requirements.
Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move
on to the next step in the examination process, a review of candidates
Supplemental Questionnaires to select the best qualified candidates who will
move on to the next step in the examination process, which is an oral interview
weighted as 100% of the candidates final examination score. The oral
interview may contain situational exercises. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE
