A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire
must be submitted with each application.
Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of
the Human Resource Services Department by 4:30 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing.
Postmarks are not accepted. Failure to submit the Supplemental Questionnaire
will result in disqualification.
THE POSITION(S): Senior Nutritionists plan, organize and direct a
nutrition program. They may be required to provide formal technical guidance
and supervision to other Nutritionists. Senior Nutritionists develop long-range
goals and specific objectives for a nutrition program and do related work as
required. The current vacancy is in the Public Health Department.
THE REQUIREMENTS: These are entrance requirements for admission to
the examination, which is competitive. Possession of the entrance requirements
does not assure a place on the eligible list. A candidate's performance in the
examination will be judged in comparison with the performance of other
candidates.
EITHER I
EXPERIENCE: The equivalent of two years of full-time experience as a
Nutritionist in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes
District Attorneys Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated
Courts.)
OR II
EDUCATION: Possession of a master's degree in nutrition, public
health nutrition, or some other appropriate field from an accredited college or
university, plus completion of an internship approved by the American Dietetic
Association, AND
EXPERIENCE:The equivalent of three years of full-time experience in
nutrition or dietetics which includes at least one year in a health agency
performing program planning and evaluation. Experience in supervision is highly
desirable.
OR III
EDUCATION: Possession of a bachelor's degree in nutrition, public
health nutrition or some other appropriate field from an accredited four year
college or university, plus completion of an internship approved by the
American Dietetic Association, AND
EXPERIENCE: The equivalent of six years of full-time experience in
nutrition or dietetics which includes at least one year in a health agency
performing program planning and evaluation. Experience in supervision is highly
desirable.
LICENSE: All candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle
Operator's license.
THE EXAMINATION: THIS IS A NEW CONTINUOUS EXAMINATION. The eligible
list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and will
last approximately one year but may be extended. This examination may be
reopened as necessary and the names of additional candidates merged onto the
existing list according to examination score.
The examination may include but may not be limited to: KNOWLEDGE OF
current principles and practices of nutrition, including nutritional
requirements for diverse age, cultural or socio-economic groups; anatomy,
physiology, chemistry and biochemistry as it relates to health nutrition;
accepted educational methods in public health and recent research on public
health nutrition and community resources; methods used to develop and direct
technical, educational and consultative programs and services in public health
nutrition. ABILITY TO plan and organize; communicate effectively orally
and in writing; provide leadership.
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following three steps: A review
of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those
candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to
the next step in the examination process, a review of candidate's Supplemental
Questionnaires to verify further knowledge, skill or ability. An oral
interview, weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score, will be
