THE POSITION(S): Under direction, incumbents in the Child Welfare Worker II classification provide intensive assessment, case management and/or casework services directed toward providing the most stable home environment for children who have been or are in danger of being abused, neglected or abandoned; and to perform related duties as required. These positions are located in the Social Services Agency and incumbents perform journeyman level social casework of an advanced nature for children and families, dealing with complex problems under the time limitations and responsibility imposed by court action.

Child Welfare Supervisor - $2314.40 Current Bi-Weekly Maximum.
THE REQUIREMENTS: These are entrance requirements for admission to the examination, which is competitive. Possession of the entrance requirements does not assure a place on the eligible list. A candidate's performance in the examination will be judged in comparison with the performance of other candidates.
EITHER I
EDUCATION: Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Welfare from a recognized school of Social Work, which included a supervised field placement providing social casework and counseling services to individuals and families.
OR II
EDUCATION: Possession of a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, with a specialization in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling (Vocational Rehabilitation and Education majors not acceptable), based on a two year program (72 quarter or 56 semester units), which included a supervised field placement as part of the course curriculum OR possession of a current M.F.C.C. license, AND
EXPERIENCE: Equivalent of one year full-time experience providing social casework services on a professional level in the field of child or family welfare in a public or private Human Services Agency after receipt of the Master's Degree OR two years of such experience if obtained prior to the receipt of the Master's Degree.
OR III
EXPERIENCE: Equivalent of three years full-time experience as a Child Welfare Worker I in the Alameda County service; AND
Recommendation for promotion based on recent performance evaluations.
LICENSE: All candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All candidates must present a copy of an unofficial transcript(s) which will show proof of the number of units obtained for the graduate degree. Proof must be submitted at time of filing the application and supplemental questionnaire. Applicants who fail to provide such document at the time of filing will be disqualified.
THE EXAMINATION: THIS IS A REOPENING OF AN EXISTING EXAMINATION. The names of qualified candidates in this examination will be merged onto the existing list according to examination score. This list may be canceled at any time, without notice to candidates.
The examination may include but may not be limited to: KNOWLEDGE OF principles of sociology and psychology relating to normal and abnormal human behavior and family and community dynamics; child development and parenting skills; Social Services Agency's programs and services; community resources; legal definitions of sexual molestation, physical abuse, general neglect and medical neglect laws relating to child abuse reporting and other related areas. ABILITY TO set limits in assisting clients; exercise sound judgement in making diagnostic risk assessments and decisions regarding placement of children; work effectively with hostile, disorganized or aggressive clients; handle crisis situations professionally and extract appropriate information in such situations; write clear, concise and descriptive reports under time restraints; communicate orally; work with varying interests and coordinate them towards solving problems.
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following three steps: A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process, a screening of applications and/or Supplemental Questionnaires to select the best qualified candidates who will move on to the next step in the examination process. The next step is an oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final exam score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.
