WOODSTOCK CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Oakland…As part of her commitment to keep the Woodstock Child Development Center (WCDC) open, Alameda County Supervisor Alice Lai-Bitker will be presenting $45,000 to members of the Alameda Unified School Board during its regular Board meeting this Tuesday, June 25th that begins at 6:30 pm. Supervisor Lai-Bitker has been a strong advocate for children services in the City of Alameda and is committed to seeing that WCDC, as the only subsidized center on the island, remain open.

"Woodstock has provided over 50 years of quality child care services to countless Alameda residents through its strong and distinguished child development program," said Supervisor Lai-Bitker. "I will work closely with the community to ensure that these critical programs continue for our children, added the Supervisor "

Supervisor Lai-Bitker's office is also a key participant in Alameda's Child Care Work Group and has helped secure funds for the newly created Children's Services Coordinator position by providing $16,000."

Along with the check presentation, Ardella Dailey, Assistant Superintendent, will update the Board on the activities of the recently formed Superintendent's Woodstock Advisory Team (SWAT).

"With Supervisor Lai-Bitker's commitment and other smaller grants from the state, I feel confident that SWAT will be able to develop a successful strategic plan," states Dailey.

The goal of SWAT is to create sufficient ongoing outside funding for the WCDC to completely eliminate the encroachment on the general fund. Increased enrollment at WCDC is one of the strategies identified by SWAT that would bring in more revenue to the WCDC. As a result, WCDC has announced immediate new openings for 18 months to five-year old children.
