Liane Yasumoto was inducted into the Culture & Art category in 2014.
Liane Yasumoto is the executive director of Culture Disability Talent, which provides opportunities for filmmakers and performers with disabilities. For many years Liane was the driving force behind Superfest, the Bay area based annual showcase of international films portraying disability as part of everyday life. A car accident when she was 19 resulted in quadriplegia, but did not deter Liane from earning a B.A. in Social Welfare from U.C. Berkeley in 1992. Before she was injured, already Liane's passions were working directly with people and exploring the performing arts. She feels fortunate that she has been able to combine these two passions into her work in changing media portrayals of people with disabilities and Asian women. Liane's media experiences include producing and hosting a variety talk show on Oakland's KTOP-TV.
