My Story

Carolyn Bloede joined the Alameda County General Services Agency in 2003 and built the County's Sustainability Program from the ground up. The program focuses on changing the way Alameda County operates so that this $2.62 billion organization of more than 9,000 employees is more environmentally friendly. In less than 10 years, Carolyn has created a program that sets a national example for how to transform government operations in ways that tread more lightly on the planet. Through her leadership, the County has established a Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adopted policies for drought resistant landscaping, green building and waste diversion that save taxpayers and serve as a model for large organizations in both the public and private sectors.
