2016 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards
Alameda County was recognized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) for several initiatives that have been implemented during the last year. We continue to be recognized not only locally but nationally as a leader in leveraging technology to benefit the employees and residents of Alameda County.
The NACo awards recognize innovative county government programs that offer new services to county residents, fill gaps in the availability of services/revenue or improve the administration of an existing government program. Our winning entries clearly exemplify the spirit of this significant award.
2016 CIO of the Year for Local Government
Tim Dupuis, Alameda County’s Chief Information Officer, has been named CIO of the Year for Local Government by e.Republic, publisher of Government Technology magazine and GovTech.com. The award was presented last week at the 2016 California Public Sector CIO Academy, the premier leadership event for California’s senior level technology executives.
In his three years as Alameda County CIO, Dupuis has focused on using technology to enhance, encourage, and increase Alameda County’s citizen engagement efforts through innovation and creativity.
In that short time, Dupuis has helped to transform Alameda County’s Information Technology Department (ITD) into a progressive organization with a start-up feel that is at the forefront of efforts to change the way the County does business with the community and its employees.
2016 Public Technology Institute (PTI) Technology Solutions Awards
The Public Technology Institute (PTI) has awarded Alameda County three 2016 Solutions Awards for our initiatives that leverage technology to make local government operations more efficient, enhance service to the community and save taxpayer dollars. The winners are:

- Alameda County Probation Ready Mobile Website
PTI, which has operated its Solutions Award program for more than 30 years, also awarded Significant Achievement Awards (SA) to other efforts:

2015 Best of California Award
Presented by the Center for Digital Government, the 13th annual Best of California awards celebrated the advancement of public-sector technology and innovation across nine categories. Among the winners recognized was the Alameda County Shuttle Mobile Web Application, which took top honors in the "Best Application Serving an Agency’s Business Needs" category.
2015 Digital Counties Survey Winner
Ranking seventh for the second year in a row, Alameda County has implemented numerous tech initiatives over the years with a heavy focus on citizen engagement, open data and transparent government.
2015 California Exposition and State Fair Excellence in Technology Award
The California Exposition and State Fair recognized us with the 2015 Excellence in Technology Award for demonstrating leadership in using technology to enhance and encourage citizen engagement through innovation and creativity. This award honors organizations committed to advancing technological innovation and creating a better way of life for California residents. The State Fair videographer was here last Friday creating a video about ITD for the awards ceremony in late June.

2014 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award
The County of Alameda General Services Agency Purchasing Department has been awarded the prestigious 19th Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award (AEP) for 2014 from the National Procurement Institute (NPI). The AEP Award is earned by public and non-profit organizations that obtain a high application score based on standardized criteria. GSA-Purchasing was one of 44 Counties in the Country to receive the award.
2014 Green Fleet Awards
Green Fleet Forum has named Alameda County the 10th Greenest Fleet in North America, our sixth year being recognized as one of the 40 greenest fleets in North America. The winners were announced at the North American Green Fleet Forum in Sacramento, CA on October 15-16, 2014.
2014 CSAC Awards
The California State Association of Counties has awarded Alameda County a 2014 Challenge Award for ongoing efforts to engage 20 County agencies in climate action.
Alameda County also received Merit Awards for the Assessor Canvassing App (BizChek), Human Exploitation & Trafficking Watch Community Initiatives (H.E.A.T.), and the California Counties Innovation award for Dig Deep Farms & Produce.
2014 Digital Government Achievement Award Winner
The Digital Government Achievement Awards (DGAA) recognize outstanding agency and department Web sites and projects at the application and infrastructure level. The contest is held concurrently with the Best of the Web Awards (BOW) contest which has recognized excellence of official Web portals of United States cities, counties and states.
Alameda County's Election Mobile Apps Suite was honored in the category "Driving Digital Government - Local Government".
2014 Digital Counties Survey Winner
The annual survey recognizes leading examples of counties using technology to improve services and boost efficiencies. Alameda County took 7th place (in the 500,000 or more population category) out of 3000 counties nationwide that are eligible to respond to this survey.
2014 NACo Achievement Awards
The annual Achievement Award Program is a non-competitive awards program that recognizes innovative county government programs. Each application is judged on its own merits and not against other applications received.
Alameda County came away with seven Achievement Awards at the National Association of Counties (NACO) National Conference this year. Five of the awards went to the County’s Information Technology Department. Awards also went the District Attorney’s Office and the Probation Department. The winning Alameda County entries were:
- ALCO Shuttle App, (ITD) — provides County employees and the public instant access to information – including schedules and details about stop locations – about the weekday shuttle service that connects key County facilities to BART and other public transportation hubs.
- Canvassing App, (ITD) — a new mobile tool for County staff that reduced by 50 percent the effort involved in the annual canvassing of business properties, eliminated the use of paper forms, improved the quality of data collected and created the opportunity to increase tax revenue by canvassing more properties.
- Data Sharing Initiative, (ITD) — launched by the County Administrator’s Office and spearheaded by the Information Technology Department, which provides easy public access to records and information about County business and operations. The Initiative has generated great new tools to enhance public access to government and community services.
- Multiple elections-related mobile apps, (ITD) — provide important time-sensitive information to voters, poll workers and candidates about local elections.
- My Property App, (ITD) — allows users to find out everything they need to know about properties in Alameda County. Users can use the app to pay property taxes, peruse County property maps and determine assessment information.
- Youth Transition Center, (Probation Dept) — a first-of-its kind project that leverages the resources of multiple County agencies to assist youth transitioning from the juvenile justice system. The Transition Center is a model for collaborative efforts that aim to decrease re-arrest rates and build community supports to help young people transform their lives.
- Youth Empowerment Program, (District Attorney's Office) — offers a wide range of integrated services to children who have witnesses or who are victims of family violence. The program provides a safe and nurturing play space, access to a County library, onsite tutoring, an opportunity to attend summer camp and other services to ensure children of all ages have the chance to thrive.

The County of Alameda General Services Agency Purchasing Department has been awarded the prestigious 18th Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award (AEP) for 2013 from the National Procurement Institute (NPI). The AEP Award is earned by public and non-profit organizations that obtain a high application score based on standardized criteria. GSA-Purchasing was one of 43 Counties in the Country to receive the award.

2013 Best of the Web Winner
In its 18th year, the annual Best of the Web (BOW) awards recognize city, county and state governments for outstanding portals and websites based on innovation, functionality, productivity and performance. This year Alameda County's website won 1st place in the county portal category.
Howard Hill, Information Technology Manager, and Michael Rock, Alameda County's Webmaster, accepted the award on behalf of the County. The award was announced by Government Technology magazine. The announcement cited the effective way that Alameda County's website, ACGOV.ORG, leverages social media – with buttons for the County’s Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Pinterest accounts displayed prominently across its homepage. The website also offers podcasts, RSS feeds and a sign-up button for email notifications.
Navigation of the website, according to Government Technology, "is clean, logical and simplified," while the County’s mobile website "boils down the content into just seven categories, which streamlines the experience even further."
2012 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award
The AEP recognizes organizational excellence in procurement on a national level. GSA-Purchasing earned the award by obtaining a high application score based on innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity, and leadership.
The County of Alameda General Services Agency-Purchasing Department works to bring enhanced value to its operations on behalf of the County, while maintaining transparency and supporting County mandates. As a result of these efforts, GSA-Purchasing has earned the National Procurement Institute’s (NPI) Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) Award for 2012.

2012 Best of the Web Winner
The 2012 Best of the Web awards, a joint endeavor of Government Technology and the Center for Digital Government, were announced Thursday, August 23, 2012. Alameda County's website won 3rd place in the county portal category.
The Best of the Web Awards contest which has recognized excellence of official Web portals of United States cities, counties and states for the past 15 years, honors governments whose websites demonstrate innovation, usability and maximum functionality for users. Best of the Web honorees have sites that also contribute to governmental efficiency by contributing to effective service delivery. Submissions from U.S. cities, counties and states were judged by executives from the Center for Digital Government, along with a panel of past Best of the Web winners.
