Service Agents

Persons who sell, rent, install, service, or repair commercial weighing and measuring devices that are in commercial use are required to be licensed as Service Agents with the California Division of Measurement Standards (DMS) and work for a registered Service Agency.

Service Agents are required to report their work to County Weights and Measures officials. This allows for inspection of the accuracy of their work and verification that only approved devices are placed into service.

Alameda County no longer offers written testing (as of March 28, 2013) on the "Business and Professions Code of California Pertaining to Weights and Measures and Petroleum Products" & the "California Code of Regulations" for the licensing of Service Agents, this test must now be taken online at this location: DMS Service Agent Examination.
