Insurance Glossary

Common Insurance Terms

  • Auto Liability – Property Damage and Bodily Injury coverage to provide protection against losses incurred as a result of motor vehicle accidents.
  • Errors and Omissions – Coverage for a mistake, which causes financial harm to another, which may occur on almost any transaction in any profession.
  • Employment Practices Liability –Coverage against claims by employees alleging their legal rights as employees of the County has been violated.
  • General Liability - Exposures to accidental losses arising from general operations, employment practices, employee vehicle operations, properties, and contractual commitments.
  • Medical Malpractice – Coverage for professional negligence by act or omission by a health care provider in which care provided deviates from accepted standards of practice in the medical community and causes injury or death.
  • Significant Injury – Catastrophic injuries, severe spinal injuries and spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, severe burns, loss of a limb or limbs, loss of sight/blindness, fractures and broken bones, potential serious scarring.
